CO2 molecule is transparent to UV radiation but is opaque to IR radiation. Due to this, it allows the UV radiations of sunlight to pass into earth’s atmosphere but does not allow heat, which is in the form of IR radiation, to move out of earth’s atmosphere. This causes heating of the atmosphere and produces a greenhouse effect.
