Question : 1 of 23
Marks: +1, -0
What will be the minimum pressure required to compress 500 dm3\mathrm{dm}^3 of air at 1 bar to 200 dm3\mathrm{dm}^3 at 30°C?
Solution:
According to Boyle’s law, at constant temperature,
P1V1P_1V_1 = P2V2P_2V_2
P1P_1 = 1 bar , P2P_2 = ?
V1V_1 = 500 dm3\mathrm{dm}^3 , V2V_2 = 200 dm3\mathrm{dm}^3
P2P_2 = P1V1V2\frac{P_1V_1}{V_2} = 1×500200\frac{1 \times 500}{200} = 2.5 bar. Thus, the minimum pressure = 2.5 bar
