Question : 13 of 36
Marks: +1, -0
Pressure is determined as force per unit area of the surface. The SI unit of pressure, pascal is 1 Pa = 1 N m−2\mathrm{N\,m^{-2}}. If mass of air at sea level is 1034 g cm−21034\,\mathrm{g\,cm^{-2}}, calculate the pressure in pascal.
Solution:
Mass of air at sea level = 1034 g cm−2\mathrm{g\,cm^{-2}}
Acceleration due to gravity, g = 9.8 m s−2\mathrm{m\,s^{-2}}
Pressure of air = 10341000\frac{1034}{1000} × 9.8 × 100 × 100 = 1.01332 × 10510^5 Pa
