Question : 32 of 73
Marks: +1, -0
Predict which of the following reactions will have appreciable concentration of reactants and products :
(a) Cl2(g)Cl_{2(g)} ⇌ 2Cl(g)2Cl_(g), KcK_c = 5 × 10–3910^{–39}
(b) Cl2(g)+2NO(g)Cl_{2(g)} + 2NO_(g) ⇌ 2NOCl(g)2NOCl_(g), KcK_c = 3.7 × 10810^8
(c) Cl2(g)+2NO2(g)Cl_{2(g)} + 2NO_{2(g)} ⇌ 2NO2Cl(g)2NO_2Cl_(g), KcK_c = 1.8
Solution:
(a) Since KcK_c is very small.
∴ There will be appreciable concentration of the reactants.
(b) Since KcK_c is very large.
∴ There will be appreciable concentration of the products.
(c) Since KcK_c = 1.8, the concentration of reactants and products will be in comparable amounts.
