Question : 14 of 67
Marks: +1, -0
A pond appears to be 2.7 m2.7\,\text{m} deep. If the refractive index of water is   43\;\frac{4}{3}, find the actual depth of the pond.
Solution:
Given : Apparent depth =2.7 m,aμw=  43=2.7\,\text{m},{}_{a}\mu_{w}=\;\frac{4}{3}
Actual depth == ?
We know,
     We know,     aμw  =     Actual depth      Apparent depth   \;\;\text{ We know, }\;\;{}_{a}\mu_{w}\;=\;\frac{\;\text{ Actual depth }\;}{\;\text{ Apparent depth }\;}
  ∴    43  =     Actual depth   2.7 m\;\therefore\;\;\frac{4}{3}\;=\;\frac{\;\text{ Actual depth }\;}{2.7\,\text{m}}
∴    \therefore\;\; Actual depth =  43×2.7 m=\;\frac{4}{3} \times 2.7\,\text{m}
=3.6 m=3.6\,\text{m}
