Question : 35 of 74
Marks: +1, -0
Calculate the weight of the meter scale.
Solution:
Let the weight of the metre scale be ' WW ' gf. It will act at the centre of gravity i.e. at 50 cm50\,\text{cm} mark.
According to the principle of moments, in equilibrium,
clockwise moment of force == Anticlockwise moment of force
W×(50−30)  =40×(30−5)W \times (50-30)\;=40 \times (30-5)
⇒    W×20  =40×25\Rightarrow\;\; W \times 20\;=40 \times 25
⇒    W  =  40×2520=50 gf\Rightarrow\;\; W\;=\;\frac{40 \times 25}{20}=50\,\text{gf}
