Question : 33 of 88
Marks: +1, -0
Ammonium hydroxide solution when added to Solution B gives a white precipitate which does not dissolve in excess of ammonium hydroxide solution.
Solution:
When ammonium hydroxide is added to solution (B) - Lead nitrate, a white ppt. is formed, which is insoluble in excess of NH4OH\mathrm{NH}_4\mathrm{OH} . White ppt. in lead hydroxide.
Pb(NO3)2(aq)+2NH4OH(aq)→\mathrm{Pb}(\mathrm{NO}_3)_2(aq) + 2 \mathrm{NH}_4\mathrm{OH}(aq) \rightarrow Pb(OH)2White ppt+2NH4NO3(aq)\underset{\text{White ppt}}{\mathrm{Pb}(\mathrm{OH})_2} + 2 \mathrm{NH}_4\mathrm{NO}_3(aq)
The cation is Pb2+\mathrm{Pb}^{2+}.
