Question : 26 of 86
Marks: +1, -0
The amount of each reactant required to produce 750 ml750\,\mathrm{ml} of carbon dioxide, when two volumes of carbon monoxide combine with one volume of oxygen to produce two volumes of carbon dioxide.
2 CO+O2→2 CO22\,\mathrm{CO}+\mathrm{O}_2\rightarrow2\,\mathrm{CO}_2
Solution:
2 CO+O2  →  2 CO22\,\mathrm{CO}+\mathrm{O}_2\;\rightarrow\;2\,\mathrm{CO}_2
2          :        1      :        22\;\;\;\;\;:\;\;\;\;1\;\;\;:\;\;\;\;2
(1) If 2 vol. of CO2\mathrm{CO}_2 is produced from 2 vol. of CO\mathrm{CO}
Then 750 ml750\,\mathrm{ml} of CO2\mathrm{CO}_2 is produced from
=22×750=750 ml   of   CO=\frac{2}{2}\times 750 = 750\,\mathrm{ml}\;\text{ of }\;\mathrm{CO}
(2) If 2 vol. of CO2\mathrm{CO}_2 is obtained from 1 vol. of O2\mathrm{O}_2
Then 750 ml750\,\mathrm{ml} of CO2\mathrm{CO}_2 is obtained from =12×750=375 ml=\frac{1}{2}\times 750 = 375\,\mathrm{ml} of O2\mathrm{O}_2
