Question : 63 of 86
Marks: +1, -0
What weight of CO2\mathrm{CO}_2 can the cylinder hold under similar conditions of temperature and pressure ? (H=1,C=12,O=16)(\mathrm{H}=1, \mathrm{C}=12, \mathrm{O}=16)
Solution:
At STP, 1 mole of any gas occupies 22.4 l22.4\ \mathrm{l} . So, at STP, 500 mole of CO2\mathrm{CO}_2 will occupy the same space as that of hydrogen.
   Molar mass of   CO2  =12+32=44 g\;\text{ Molar mass of }\;\mathrm{CO}_2\;=12+32=44\ \mathrm{g}
500   moles of   CO2  =500×44\therefore 500\;\text{ moles of }\;\mathrm{CO}_2\;=500\times 44
  =22000 g\;=22000\ \mathrm{g}
Thus, the cylinder can hold 22 kg CO222\ \mathrm{kg}\ \mathrm{CO}_2 .
