The least value of

f(x)=x^{3}-12 x, x ∈[0,3]

Solution:

f(x)=x^{3}-12 x, x ∈[0,3]

f^{'}(x)=3 x^{2}-12=0

⇒ x^{2}=\;{12}/{3} ⇒ x= ± 2

f(0)=0, f(3)=-9, f(2)=-16

Least value of f(x) is -16 at x = 2.
