Question : 9 of 20
Marks: +1, -0
The coordinates of the foot of the perpendicular drawn from the point (0, 1, 2) on the x-axis are given by :
Solution:
Vector equation for x-axis is r→=λi∧ where x=λ. Let a point P(λ, 0, 0) is on the x-axis perpendicular to the given point A(0, 1, 2) then AP→ is perpendicular to λi∧.
AP→.λi∧=0 where AP→=λi∧−j∧−2k∧
(λi∧−j∧−2k∧).(λi∧+0j∧+0k∧)=0
λ2=0
λ=0, so the foot of the perpendicular drawn from the point (0, 1, 2) is (0, 0, 0).
