Give reasons for the following :
(a) Acetylation of aniline reduces its activation effect.
(b) CH3NH2\mathrm{CH}_3\mathrm{NH}_2 is more basic than C6H5NH2\mathrm{C}_6\mathrm{H}_5\mathrm{NH}_2.
(c) Although −NH2-\mathrm{NH}_2 is o/p\mathrm{o} / \mathrm{p} directing group, yet aniline on nitration gives a significant amount of m\mathrm{m}-nitroaniline.
Solution:  
(a) Due to the resonance, the electron pair of nitrogen atom gets delocalised towards carbonyl group/resonating structures.
(b) Because of +I+\mathrm{I} effect in methylamine electron density at nitrogen increases whereas in aniline resonance takes place and electron density on nitrogen decreases / resonating structures.
(c) Due to protonation of aniline / formation of anilinium ion.
