In humans, sex determination is done by the XY type mechanism.

Humans contain 23 pairs of chromosomes. 22 pairs of chromosomes are the same in both genders, which is called autosomes.

Females have XX chromosomes and males have XY chromosomes as sex chromosomes.

When the X chromosome of female fuses with the X chromosome of a male, a girl child will be born.

Likewise, when the X chromosome of female fuses with the Y chromosome of a male, a boy child will be born.

Thus, the sex chromosome of the male (father) determines the sex of the child.
