Question : 5 of 20
Marks: +1, -0
In the given figure, DE||BC. If AD = 3 cm, AB = 7 cm, and EC = 3cm, then the length of AE is
Solution:
In ∆ ABC
DE || BC
  ADDB=  AEEC\;\frac{AD}{DB} = \;\frac{AE}{EC} [By Thales Theorem]
  3cm4cm=  AE3cm\;\frac{3\,\mathrm{cm}}{4\,\mathrm{cm}} = \;\frac{AE}{3\,\mathrm{cm}} [∵ DB = AB -AD = 7cm - 3cm = 4cm]
AE×4cm=3cm×3cmAE \times 4\,\mathrm{cm} = 3\,\mathrm{cm} \times 3\,\mathrm{cm}
AE=  3cm×3cm4cmAE = \;\frac{3\,\mathrm{cm} \times 3\,\mathrm{cm}}{4\,\mathrm{cm}}
AE = 2.2 cm
