The Seven Management and Planning Tools

·          Affinity diagrams – grouping ideas for new, unfamiliar, and complex problems; ideas with an “affinity” to each other are grouped; brainstorming

·          Interrelationship diagraphs (ID) – grouping; brainstorming

·          Tree diagrams – systematic diagram; outline all of the details for a given objective; organize by levels of importance

·          Prioritization matrices – rank order scores

·          Matrix diagrams – relationships between categories; C, L, T, X, Y, etc. Types

·          Process decision program charts (PDPC) – used to develop contingencies from a sequence of complex and challenging tasks; attempt to answer “what if” questions; project objective may be placed at the beginning or end

·          Activity network diagrams (AND) – PERT, CPM, AON, PDM - critical path; slack time
